Walter Valentine McCreary was born on February 14, 1921, in Winfield, Cowley County, Kansas. He was the son of Walter McCreary and Martha Frances Tuggle McCreary.
He served in Company B, 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Gunnery Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 5, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
