Jensen enlisted in the US Army on May 2, 1938, was released in 1941, and re-enlisted on June 4, 1941. Trained as a pilot, he served overseas in 1944 with the 91st Group, 323rd Bomber Squadron at RAF Bassingbourn. He joined 2nd Lt. Oscar J. Snow’s crew on June 29, 1944, along with fellow Danish-American Cpl. Walter E. Poulsen. Jensen was among over 30,000 Danish-Americans in the US armed forces during World War II.
