Herman Joseph Valentine was born on November 30, 1922, in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. He was the son of John Valentine and Adeline Valentine.
He served in the 323rd Bomber Squadron, 91st Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant during World War II. He was the top turret gunner of the B-17G 43-37594 "Strictly GI" that was shot down after a bombing mission in Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, Germany, crashing at Lachen-Speyerdorf Forest. He was Killed in Action on September 9, 1944, during the mission.
