Sterling Harlan Parks was born on October 21, 1922, in Ebenezer, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of William James Parks and Anna Mary Cox Parks.

He served in Company L, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 30, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
