John Thornton Quesenberry was born on August 5, 1923, in Iberia Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of James Richard Quesenberry and Cecile Ruth Thornton Quesenberry.
He served in the United States Naval Reserve as a Pharmacist Mate Third Class during World War II. He helped set up a field hospital, which was attacked by enemy forces on July 26, 1944. He held off the enemy long enough to evacuate the hospital, earning the Silver Star posthumously for his bravery. He died on July 26, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
