John Leo Rasmussen was born on July 2, 1916, in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. He was the son of Leo J. Rasmussen and Hazel L. Alerie Rasmussen.
He served in Company B, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 23, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
