Gene Rodenbush was born on March 15, 1924, in West Frankfort, Franklin County, Illinois. He was the son of Harry Edward Rodenbush and Minnie May Grammer Rodenbush.
He served in Company G, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 29, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
