Hardy James Sorrell was born on August 1, 1925, in the District of Columbia. He was the son of James Abraham Sorrell and Mary Virginia Allen Sorrell.
He served in Company C, 1st Battalion, 22nd Marine Regiment, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 27, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
