William E. Strunk was born in 1920, in South Dakota. He was the son of Raymond Charles Strunk Sr. and Mary M. Scherkenbach Strunk.
He served in the United States Naval Reserve as an Ensign during World War II. He was declared Missing in Action on July 18, 1944, during the Battle for Guam. He was officially declared dead on February 4, 1946. He also has a cenotaph in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA.
