Boyd Walter Sunderland was born on July 25, 1925, in Curwensville, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of William Taylor Sunderland and Margaret Marie Bell Sunderland.
He served in Company B, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 23, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
