Arthur “Duck” Vanmeter was born on June 30, 1923, in Harrison County, Indiana. He was the son of Walter Valentine Osborn Vanmeter and Rose Nell Williams Vanmeter.
He served in Company A, 1st Battalion, 21st Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Sergeant during World War II. He was declared Missing in Action on July 27, 1944, during the Battle for Guam. His body was never recovered.
