He served in Battery A, 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Corporal during World War II. He was declared Missing in Action on July 23, 1944, during the Battle for Guam. He has a cenotaph in Christ the King Catholic Cemetery, Dayton, Webster County, Iowa, USA.
