Willis D. Harless was born on January 30, 1923, in Choctaw County, Oklahoma. He was the son of James Floyd Harless and Pearl Lee Harless.
He was married to Robbie Lee Winn Harless. He had a daughter namely Norma Dean Harless.
He served in the 744th Bomb Squadron, 56th Bomb Group, as a Staff Sergeant and a machine gunner of B24 Liberator bomber during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 17, 1944, when the B24 was hit by German anti-aircraft fire and crashed in Castries, France, during a mission. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He was first buried in Castries memorial and later transferred to Soper Cemetery, Soper, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, USA.
