Ferd Albert Dunn was born on September 26, 1915, in Damascus, Washington County, Virginia. He was the son of William Franklin Dunn and Laura Alice Morefield Dunn.
He served in the 17th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was in the point platoon when his unit was ambushed by German troops in the hamlet of Les Rolandières, at Dol-de-Bretagne. He was Killed in Action on August 3, 1944, during the liberation of Dol-de-Bretagne. He was awarded the Purple Heart and interred at the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
