William Alexander �Bill� Hill was born on October 2, 1923, in Marion, Williamson County, Illinois. He was the son of Opal Lee Hill and Jessie Cunningham Hill. He was married to Betty Ann Hunsaker.

He served in the 643rd Bomber Squadron, 409th Bomber Group, as a Sergeant during World War II. He was shot down together with his 2 comrades over Rennes, crashing in Montgermont, France, on July 9, 1944. All members were Killed in Action. Sgt Hill was buried first at Montgermont cemetery and later was transferred to the Maplewood Cemetery, Marion, Williamson County, Illinois, USA, next to his parents.
