Curtis Lee Bodkins was born on May 13, 1920, in Whitmer, Randolph County, West Virginia. He was the son of Henry Clay Vance and Bessie Delina Eye. He was married to Norma Selena Channell. They had one child, Corliss Joan Bodkins Richard.

Cutis Bodkins registered for military service in 1943. He served in Company K, 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 11, 1944, during the Liberation of Saint-Malo in France. He was buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Whitmer, Randolph County, West Virginia, USA, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
