Thomas Woodrow Duncan was born on July 3, 1915, in Cass County, Missouri. He was the son of Fernando Thomas Duncan and Mildred Nora Peterson Duncan. He was the husband of Geneva Allene Hatch Terrell. They had one daughter namely Tommie Allene.
Thomas Duncan attended Freeman High School. He entered the Army on March 27, 1941, and received basic training in Fort Robinson, Arkansas. Nine months later he moved to Camp Callan near San Diego, California. He served other camps and then graduated as a cook in the summer of 1943 at Camp Stoneman near Pittsburg, California. Thomas continued as a cook when he was transferred overseas in February 1944. He was sent to France as a squad leader and was promoted to Sergeant.
Sgt Duncan served in Company I, 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division, as a Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 11, 1944, during the Liberation of Saint-Malo in France. He was buried at Freeman Cemetery
