He served in Company K, 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 12, 1944, during the Liberation of Saint-Malo in France. Pvt. Ehrlich was buried at Acacia Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, Norwood Park Township, Cook County, Illinois, USA, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
