Clarence Henry Short was born on July 31, 1921, in Bradford, Miami County, Ohio. He was the son of Wilbur Levi Short and Dora Elizabeth Bucholtz Short. He was the husband of Juanita Marie Longbrake Taylor.

Clarence Short was a graduate of Bradford High School. He was a former employee of the Shade Lumber Company and a tank factory in Round Head. He entered the Armed Forces in November 1942. Pvt. Short served in Company A, 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 13, 1944, during the Liberation of Saint-Malo in France. He was buried at Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford, Miami County, Ohio, USA, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
