Marshall S. Waid was born on May 19, 1919. He was the son of Alice L. Goodell Hollywood and Fred Waid. He attended Petersham High School. He worked as a core maker at Barre Foundry and later at Highland Foundry in Athol before entering the service on October 5, 1942.
Marshall Waid served in Company K, 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 13, 1944, during the Liberation of Saint-Malo in France. He was buried at Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
