Robert E. Judels
Robert Judels was born in New York in 1912. He was the son of Cécilia Judels. The family moved to Paris a few years later. In 1940, he entered the ranks of the French army as an ambulance driver and a volunteer.
In 1941, the Judels family returned to the United States where Robert joined the American army in February 1942. He was promoted to Lieutenant in September 1942. After several missions in his country, he learned that he was going to be sent abroad as an interpreter because he spoke French fluently. The team he is a member of is attached to the 101st Airborne Division. Aboard one of the first gliders, he landed in Normandy on the night of June 5-6, 1944. His unit, based in Hiesville, specialized in intelligence and it transmitted a lot of valuable information to the Headquarters.
In 1945, his mother, Cecilia, created a sponsorship committee in the United States to help a town in which her son had fought. Robert Judels died in 1977 in Paris.
