Thomas Omar Ahmad was born on October 12, 1919, in Racine County, Wisconsin. He was the son of Joseph Ahmad and Martha Erdmann Ahmad. He was the husband of Arline Ahmad.

Thomas served in the 74th Troop Carrier Squadron, 434th Troop Carrier Group, as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He was a Glider Pilot in support of the D-Day landings at Normandy in what was known as Glider Operation Neptune. It was reported that he survived his glider landing on D-Day 2 and then teamed up with some misplaced paratroopers. 2Lt Ahmad was subsequently captured and executed by the Germans on or about June 12, 1944, together with some wounded paratroopers and some French civilians during the Battle of Graignes in France. He was awarded the Air Medal, and Purple Heart.
