Loyal K. Bogart was born on June 23, 1920, in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, New York. He was the son of Frederick D. Bogart and Mary Bogart. He served in Company B, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, as a Captain and a Company Commander during World War II.
Loyal is hit by the flak approach of the C-47, but he decides to jump with his men anyway. On landing, he broke his leg. Loyal wanting to make himself useful despite his injuries. He is put on a bed by Captain Abraham Sophian. This bed is placed in the command post where it will serve as a telephone operator between the different stations.
On June 11, 1944, the command post was hit by mortar shells, Loyal was mortally shot by one of these shells on his bed and was Killed in Action during the Battle of Graignes in France. Cpt Loyal was buried at Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Departement de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
