Benton J. Broussard was born on October 16, 1922, in Lyons Point, Acadia Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of Bennett Broussard and Elia Richard Broussard.

Benton served in the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Sergeant during World War II. He dropped in Normandy on June 6, 1944, and because he spoke French and English, he served as a translator for his unit. He was captured near the village of Graignes on June 11, 1944. Sgt Benton was Killed in Action on June 11, 1944, during the Battle of Graignes in France. He was first buried in the United States Military Cemetery in Blosville, France, and was repatriated in Woodlawn Cemetery, Crowley, Acadia Parish, Louisiana, USA, in June 1949. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
