Walter Leo Choquette was born on August 29, 1921, in Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana. He was the son of Eugene R. Choquette and Gladys Choquette. He enlisted in the service on March 4, 1942.
Walter served in the 507th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Private during World War II. On June 6, 1944, with his stick, he parachuted into the region near Graignes. Walter crossed the Channel in the C47 Series 25 Aircraft n°48 C47 42-92066 aircraft of the 61st Troop Carrier Group, they will jump on the DropZone N. He will defend the town with his comrades. Unfortunately, running out of ammunition, they had to surrender.
On June 13, 1944, the Germans executed him along with 29 paratroopers. Pvt Choquette is buried in the American cemetery of Normandy, in Colleville-sur-Mer, France, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
