Elmer Frederick Hoffman was born on July 16, 1916, in Cedar Bluffs, Saunders County, Nebraska. He was the son of Rudolf F. Hoffman and Ella Hoffman. He was the husband of Lois Bets Hoffman. He enlisted in the army on August 16, 1937, and joined the Airborne Infantry on January 15, 1943.
Elmer served in the 507th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 13, 1944, during the Battle of Graignes in France. 1Lt Hoffman was buried at Memorial Cemetery, Fremont, Dodge County, Nebraska, USA, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
