Richard J. Hoffman was born on August 28, 1921. He was the son of George W. Hoffman and Rhumain C. Chiddister Hoffman. He served in the Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. PFC Hoffman was Killed in Action on June 8, 1944, during the Battle of Graignes in France. He was buried at Brown Cemetery, Millersburg, Elkhart County, Indiana, USA, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
