Harry W. Murray was born in 1921 in North Carolina. He served in the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 507th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Demolition Sergeant during World War II. Sgt Murray was Killed in Action on June 7, 1944, when he was shot to the throat during the Battle of Graignes in France. He is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery and was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Harry W. Murray (ASN: 20454264), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action against the enemy at Normandy, France, on 11 July 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
