James M. Naff was born on March 10, 1918, in Bastrop, Morehouse Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of John Allen Naff and Ruby Newman Naff. He was employed by the Southern Kraft Corporation before entering the service on November 21, 1942.

James served in the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, as a Corporal during World War II. Cpl Naff was Killed in Action on June 9, 1944, during the Battle of Graignes in France. He is now buried in Beekman Cemetery, Bastrop, Morehouse Parish, Louisiana, USA, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
