Richard Elder Reese was born on August 15, 1912, in Salt Lake County, Utah. He was the son of John Heber Reese and Nora Edler Reese. He joined the U.S. Navy at 17 and later re-enlisted in April 1942 as a paratrooper in the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, known as "Raff's Ruffians." Serving as a Technician Fifth Grade due to his technical skills, he trained across the U.S. before deploying to Northern Ireland in late 1943.
On June 11, 1944, while in Graignes, France, his unit faced German attacks that escalated throughout the day, destroying the village. T5 Richard was killed in action during this battle. He is now buried in Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA.
