Abraham Sophian Jr. was born on April 25, 1915, in New York. He had a child namely Dorothy Anne "Peachie" Sophian Carey. He served in the 507th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Captain during World War II. Cpt Sophian was Killed in Action on June 11, 1944, after he volunteered to stay with wounded paratroopers during a withdrawal and was executed by the German troops. He is now buried in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kansas, USA. >br> From Find a Grave: Abraham was the son of a Russian immigrant physician. He was the 3rd Battalion Surgeon with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment during the Allied invasion of Normandy in WWII. Abraham was captured by the Germans, in the town of Graignes, Normandy, after he volunteered to stay with wounded paratroopers during a withdrawal. He was summarily executed because of the Americans' spirited defense of the town.
