Joseph Anthony Stachowiak was born on July 5, 1922, in Scottdale, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Peter A Stachowiak and Stella A. Woiteyak Stachowiak. He graduated from Mount Jackson High School. He was employed by the Mooney brothers before entering the service on December 17, 1942.
Joseph served in the 507th Paratrooper Infantry Medical Detachment as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 11, 1944, during the Battle of Graignes in France. PFC Joseph is now buried in Saint Josef's Polish Catholic Cemetery, Everson, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
