William M. Porter was born on November 3, 1923, in Los Angeles, California. He was the son of Robert George Porter and Glenn Ayers Porter. William served in the 365th Fighter Squadron, 358th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot on the P-47 #42-76075 during World War II.
On July 28, 1944, he took off at A-14 airfield in Cretteville, France, for a mission to Tessy-sur-Vire. 2Lt Porter was Killed in Action when he was shot down by flak at 05:30 PM over Gouvets. He is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
