Hale Robert Burnham was born on January 6, 1924, in Newport, Pend Oreille County, Washington. He was the son of Hale A. Burnham and Irma May Dinham Kellogg. He was the assistant manager at Stone’s Food store in Sandpoint before enlisting in the army in January 1943.
Hale served in the 410th Infantry Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. PFC Burnham was Killed in Action on March 15, 1945, during the liberation of Uhrwiller, France. He is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-Avold, Departement de la Moselle, Lorraine, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
