Theodore Q. Butts was born on November 1, 1918, in Minnesota. He was the son of Charles Fayette Butts and Vera Irene Mann Butts.
Butts served in the 1st Ranger Battalion, as a Sergeant during World War II. He was transferred to Company B, 4th Ranger Battalion when that battalion was created. Sgt Butts was one of 50 US Army Rangers who participated with British Commando on the Dieppe raid in 1942. He was wounded several times while with the 4th Rangers, once in September in his hand from shrapnel and he was seriously wounded in November which took him out of the Rangers. He was discharged in June 1944 and returned to the US. Sgt Butts is now buried in Alta Mesa Memorial Park, Palo Alto, Santa Clara County, California, USA.
