Gino Mercuriali was born in 1920. He served in Company D, 1st Ranger Battalion, as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. Gino was promoted to a 2nd LT and remained with the 1st Rangers in D Company. He was one of 50 US Army Rangers who participated with British Commando on the Dieppe raid in 1942. He returned home with other Rangers on the USS Edward Richardson. They landed on US soil May 3, 1944. 2Lt Mercuriali died on January 9, 2006, and is now buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa, USA.
