Peter Mitchell Preston was born on July 25, 1918, in West Virginia. He was the son of Mike A. Preston and Elizabeth Dudash Preston. He was married to Alice Lorraine Steele Preston.
Peter served in Company F, 1st Ranger Battalion, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was one of 50 US Army Rangers who participated with British Commando on the Dieppe raid in 1942. Peter received the PH after he was wounded in February 1943 in Tunisia. He was hit in the back of the shoulder and ear which resulted in partial loss of hearing. He returned to duty in April 1943. He ended his service as a Corporal. Cpl Preston died on October 14, 1985, and is now buried in Glen Haven Memorial Park, Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA.
