Michael Noel Faherty was born on December 30, 1946, in County Galway, Ireland. He was the son of Kathleen Regan Faherty. He immigrated to the United States and joined the army from Boston. He enlisted in 1966, trained at Fort Monmouth, and specialized in motion picture photography. He served in the the Headquarters Company (HHC), USARV Special Troops, under the Army Headquarters Area Command in the United States Army, Vietnam (USARV), as a Specialist 5th Class during the Vietnam War. SP5 Faherty went home on a leave to be with his mother and shortly after his arrival home, he was diagnosed with malaria. He died as a result of cerebral malaria and blackwater fever on July 25, 1968. He is now buried in New Rahoon Cemetery, Galway, County Galway, Ireland.
