William Ira Bernard was born on March 29, 1916. He was the son of William Terrill Bernard and Emma Davis Wade Bernard. He was married to Malona Esther "Lona" Gosser Johnson.
William served in the 142nd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on November 30, 1944, during the liberation of Kintzheim, France. Pvt Bernard is now buried in the Mill Springs National Cemetery, Nancy, Pulaski County, Kentucky, USA.
