Clarence George Hupfer was born on April 24, 1907. He was the husband of Catherine Julia Leach Hupfer. He served in the 746th Tank Battalion as a Lieutenant Colonel during World War II. He led the battalion through the D-Day invasion at Utah Beach as part of Operation Overlord on June 6, 1944. Under his leadership, the 746th provided essential armored support for the 4th Infantry Division, aiding in the rapid inland push and later advancing across France in intense engagements, including the Battle of the Bulge. After his leadership in the 746th Tank Battalion, he continued his military career into the Korean War period, before retiring and ending his military service as a Colonel.
