George Paul Conway was born on September 14, 1922, in Roanoke, Roanoke City, Virginia. He was the son of Charles G. Conway and Mary Foy Blaum. He was married to Mary Katherine Waldis. He worked in the railway before enlisting in the service on November 9, 1942.

George served in the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 2, 1944, during the liberation of Vire, France. PFC Conway is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Colleville-sur-Mer, Departement du Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France.
