Robert Somerville Sprague was born on January 22, 1919, in Aberdeen, Washington. His hometown was in San Diego, California.

Robert served in the 334th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a Captain during World War II. He was killed in a flight accident on November 26, 1942. His aircraft was involved in a mid-air collision with squadron mate James Harrington while on a local flight. He crashed 4 miles south of Bishop’s Stortford in Hertfordshire, England.

Cpt Sprague is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
