B-24 (42-110081) 'Able Mabel' Memorial -93rd Bomber Group
Kenneth Victor Ehrhart was born on December 10, 1909, in Prosperity, Jasper County, Missouri. He was the son of Emery Ehrhart and Lula Hamer Rasmussen. He served in the 328th Bomber Squadron, 93rd Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Technical Sergeant and Bombardier, Enlisted, Nose Gunner of B-24 #42-110081 nicknamed "Able Mabel" during World War II.
On June 19, 1944, while on a mission targeting V-1 launch sites in northern France, the aircraft was struck by German anti-aircraft fire (Flak) over Maldegem, Belgium. The damage led to a fire in the right wing, causing the aircraft to lose altitude and ultimately crash in the Sint-Jozef district of Bruges. Of the ten crew members, three were killed, and seven survived the crash, with several becoming prisoners of war.
TSgt Ehrhart was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial, Epinal, Departement des Vosges, Lorraine, France.
