B-24 (42-110081) 'Able Mabel' Memorial -93rd Bomber Group
Michael Angelo “Mike” Pietruccioli was born on November 18, 1917. He was the husband of Pearl Beth Mayben Rogan. He served in the 328th Bomber Squadron, 93rd Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator of B-24 #42-110081 nicknamed "Able Mabel" during World War II.
On June 19, 1944, while on a mission targeting V-1 launch sites in northern France, the aircraft was struck by German anti-aircraft fire (Flak) over Maldegem, Belgium. The damage led to a fire in the right wing, causing the aircraft to lose altitude and ultimately crash in the Sint-Jozef district of Bruges. Of the ten crew members, three were killed, and seven survived the crash, with several becoming prisoners of war.
2Lt Pietruccioli was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Hackensack Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hackensack, Bergen County, New Jersey, USA.
