Darrell Herrert Argubright was born on March 24, 1919, in Ogden, Weber County, Utah. He was the son of Ralph Howard Argubright and Myra Moon Argubright. He enlisted in the service on July 15, 1942. He served in the 601st Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator of B-17G #42-102565, nicknamed ''The Ugly Duckling'' during World War II.
On August 30, 1944, the aircraft was damaged by enemy anti-aircraft fire during a bombing mission over Kiel, Germany. The aircraft sustained significant damage, and 2Lt Argubright bailed out over the Baltic Sea. Tragically, he did not survive. Despite the damage, the remaining crew managed to extinguish a fire in the fuselage and successfully returned the aircraft to RAF Langham in Norfolk, England.
2Lt Argubright is now buried in the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial, Hamm, Canton de Luxembourg, Luxembourg, Luxembourg. Darrell H. Argubright's name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 2 (center), on Butterfly 21, in the bottom right wing (section D).
