Thomas Cleo Bowles was born in 1919. He was the son of Finis C. Bowles and Rena Estelle Brooks Bowles. He was married to Nona Mae "Tootsie" Meadows. He served in the 600th Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a First Lieutenant and Radio Operator during World War II.
1Lt Bowles was Killed in Action on September 26, 1944, during a bombing mission over Osnabrück, Germany. His aircraft, a B-17 Flying Fortress, was lost during this operation, resulting in the deaths of all crew members aboard. He is now buried in the Oakdale Cemetery, Depew, Creek County, Oklahoma, USA. Thomas C. Bowles' name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 3 (right), on Butterfly 26, in the top right wing (section B).
