Albert Shubie Carlisle Jr. was born on October 22, 1924, in Hartford, Windsor County, Vermont. He was the son of Albert Shubie Carlisle and Ruth Mae Littlefield Carlisle. He served in the 603rd Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner of B-17 #44-6573 during World War II.
On March 2, 1945, the aircraft was lost during a bombing mission over Germany. The aircraft was shot down by enemy fighters near Chemnitz, Germany, and crashed near Slaný, close to Karlovy in what is now the Czech Republic.
Sgt Carlisle was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Hartford Cemetery, Hartford, Windsor County, Vermont, USA. Albert S. Carlisle's name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 3 (right), on Butterfly 24, in the bottom right wing (section D).
