Donald Roy Christensen was born on September 3, 1917, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. He was the son of Erastus Snow Christensen and Annistacia "Annice" Potter Christensen. He was married to Jocile Ursenbach Neilson. He served in the 603rd Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of B-17 #44-6573 during World War II.

On March 2, 1945, the aircraft was lost during a bombing mission over Germany. The aircraft was shot down by enemy fighters near Chemnitz, Germany, and crashed near Slaný, close to Karlovy in what is now the Czech Republic.

2Lt Christensen was among those who lost their lives in the crash and is now buried in the Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, Los Angeles County, California, USA. Donald R. Christensen's name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 3 (right), on Butterfly 24, in the top left wing (section A).
