Harry Ostrow was born on November 5, 1919, in Russia. He was the son of Hyman Ostrow and Anna Ostrow. He enlisted in the service on December 14, 1942. He served in the 603rd Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator of B-17 #44-6573 during World War II.

On March 2, 1945, the aircraft was lost during a bombing mission over Germany. The aircraft was shot down by enemy fighters near Chemnitz, Germany, and crashed near Slaný, close to Karlovy in what is now the Czech Republic.

2Lt Ostrow was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery Nicholasville, Jessamine County, Kentucky, USA. Harry Ostrow's name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 3 (right), on Butterfly 22, in the bottom left wing (section C).
