Helen J Courtney born on 9 Oct 1888 Castletownroche, County Cork, Ireland, Helena Josephine Courtney, an Irish-born woman moved to the United States and attended a nursing school in Springfield Ohio. As a graduate she went to serve as a Red Cross nurse in England. She was later a died in the Portsmouth Military Hospital in October 1918. She was a US Service Personnel, a nurse. Served in Base Hospital 33, Group D, Army Nurse Corps. Died of menigitis on October 7, 1918. She was buried at Magdalen Hill Cemetery on 9th October 1918 with full military honours. Her remains were exhumed on 22 April 1920 by order of The Irish Home Office. Remains returned from England and buried in Clonfert Cemetery, Newmarket, Co. Cork in 1920.
